  • The FE White Paper Further Education Raising
    Skills, Improving Life Chances (DfES, 2006c) sets
    out the expectation that all LSC funded FE
    providers must have a learner involvement
    strategy which is published and reviewed as part
    of their self-evaluation (SEF) for inspection
    purposes (LSC 2007 and Ofsted 2005)

Aims of the strategy for students
  • Builds confidence, self-esteem
  • Motivates and encourages
  • Helps students to formulate and express their own
    opinions whilst listening to others.
  • Helps support and develop their organisation by
    bringing student views to the issue of rethinking
    education
  • Helps to ensure decision-makers hear their voice

  • To develop a clear vision of the value of the
    learner voice
  • To ensure the learner voice is heard in all
    aspects of the institution
  • To acknowledge the centrality of good, trusting,
    supportive relationships between staff and
    students
  • To involve learners in the developing of new
