Main Aims of the Approach

• Ensure continued credibility of the Modern
  Studies National Qualifications
• Facilitate the partnership approach of Curriculum
  for Excellence
• Share knowledge about national standards
• Increase assessors confidence in assessment
  decisions
• Support flexible delivery of National
  Qualifications

Key Aspects of Approach

• Verification type for Modern Studies will be an
  event
• Complete or interim evidence may be used for
  verification
• Verification will be undertaken by the Principal
  Verifier, Senior Team Leader and Nominees

Verification Outcomes

• Range of outcomes are
• Accepted Accepted Not Accepted
• Principal Verifier will sample reports/outcomes
• Where a centre is Accepted or Not Accepted, the
  outcome/report must be authorised by the
  Principal Verifier
• Outcome feeds into the center's priority rating
  for the next year
• Follow-up action will be reviewed by PV
• Holds lifted once PV confirms the issue has been
  resolved
• Usual certification date deadline will apply

Verification Outcomes

• Accepted
• The approaches to assessment at that level are in
  line with national standards.
• The assessment judgements at that level are valid
  and reliable and consistent and in with the
  national standards.
• Accepted
• There are some recommended actions that relate to
  the approaches to assessment or the assessment
  judgements, but overall the assessment judgements
  are in line with national standards (i.e.
  certification can proceed)
• Not Accepted indicates that there was a
  significant issue with
• the approach to assessment and/or
• the centres assessment judgements
• and that this warrants a hold being placed on
  certification until the stipulated corrective
  action is taken and verified by SQA
