• Frieda Hughes is the daughter of Ted Hughes and
  Sylvia Plath. She was born on April 1, 1960 (no
  joke).
• In the poem, Frieda is about two years of age
  the family were living in the countryside in
  Devon and Frieda would be trying out new words.
• Its the amazement at the childs acquisition of
  language that is the most important feature in
  the poem. It literally transforms the perception
  of the world, making the inanimate alive.
