  • Internal threats- A group of weak Roman leaders,
    famine and disease spread throughout the empire
    and a weakened economy.

Internal Threats
  • Diocletian divides the empire in two
  • The West is ruled from Rome
  • The East is called the Byzantine Empire and ruled
    from Constantinople (now Istanbul)

External Threats
  • The empire had been weakened by the internal
    problems, so it came under attack by Germanic
    tribes.
  • Rome is captured in 476 A.D. and the empire is
    divided up by the Germanic Tribes in 550 A.D.
