Variables and Relationships

• A cause and effect relationship - a situation
  where a change in one thing (the cause/ a
  variable ) results in a change another thing (the
  effect/ another variable )
• -a situation where one thing depends on
  another/others
• These factors that change are called variables.
• There are two types of variables in a cause and
  effect relationship dependent and independent.
• The dependent variable is the factor that is
  affected by (or relies on) the other factor(s).
  It is the effect.
• The independent variable is the factor that
  affects another factor. It is the cause.

• EXAMPLE
• Cause and effect relationship The success of a
  gr. 10 math student
• Dependent variable ( the effect ) The success
• Independent variables ( the causes ) homework,
  studying, effort, attendance, etc
• Create an example of a cause and effect
  relationship. Identify the dependent and
  independent variables.
