Carl Thomas L. Brown grew up all over at the air
force craft so he lived in Germany and Panama. He
also spend time in Tolland as a youngster.
Who were his parents and what did they do?
His dad was General Raymond Brown an air force
pilot and his mother was Harriet Brown, an army
nurse and later a house wife

Did he have any brothers or sisters?
  • Mr. brown did have 2 brothers and a sister by the
    name Jerry Brown John Brown and Lisped Brown.
    Jerry lives in Luiseno, Texas near Dallas lives
    his other brother John Brown. Meanwhile his
    sister lives in Corpus Christi.

Did he remember how he thought and felt then?
In the war he felt like if as doing the right
thing even thought we sometimes felt scared. I
still felt like we had a mission to do in the
Vietnam War.

  • Mr. Brown was only 22 years old when he went to
    Vietnam war.
  • What was he doing prior to the war?
  • Prior to the war he was a collage student. Three
    days later he graduated and joined the army.

What was his assigned job?
  • His assigned job was to be the visor to the army
    in South Vietnam
  • What battle was Mr. Brown in?
  • He was in the Vietnam war from summer of 1971
    through the summer of 1972.

Was he scared most of the time or was that just
part of life?
When you first get there you are very scared.
That was one thing he said, but then he said that
the more you are into the country the more
rutting you get again .
Did he remember the first day of the battle?
Mr. Brown did in fact remember the first day of
the battle. The first day he got there they
landed in Saigon because there was were they had
to get their uniforms and weapons. That very same
day they were attacked by the communist

Did he leave anyone at home?
He did leave someone in home he left his wife. He
left his wife back in Montana with her parents.
His parents were in San Antonio
What are the history books leaving out?
He thinks that history books are just a summery
of what had happened in the war. The history are
in fact leaving things out like projects they did
during the battle. Some things that are not being
covered in the text books are like things that
were happing in the health center and agriculture
center and a lot of thing that are happening to
the Vietnam people

Did he now that he was part of history?
Since Mr. brown was a history major he had a good
sense of history and did know that he would be
part of history but he just didnt know how the
story of Vietnam war would unfold in the history
books
During combat how close was he to he enemy?
Well because of his job he had to be 4 feet away.
He probably did not know that they were the enemy
because they went to many villages he suspected
many people to be the enemy but he could not
prove it.

Did you have any pets in the service
They did have pets in the service they had a cat
a guinea pig a hamster and tortoise.
Some of his favorite songs
Some of Mr. Browns favorite songs were Lonely
from Roy Albertson. Some of the song they
listened to Elvis Presley songs.

What was the hardest time during service?
He thought the hardest time during service was
that he had to separate from his family.
What was an average day like
He woke up at 530 am and when for physical
training 600 am that was like an hour went to
his house to take a shower and perused the daily
activities. Shooting in the fields and many times
duty lasted all night long.

Were you ever wounded?
He was wounded in Vietnam at war but it wasnt
the enemy it was because a building collapsed. He
couldnt sustained himself and was cut really
badly.
Did he know that he would probably loose his life?
When he first got there he was always thinking of
that, but they always took precaution of not
getting hurt or injured.

A story he told he told
us
There was a time in the army that I thought it
was the best because you could feel proud of
helping other people particularly the young
soldiers in my career. I remember that the union
always felt proud of accomplishing a mission.
