Title: The Rock Cycle

1
The Rock Cycle
2
The Rock Cycle
  • Over the great stretch of geologic time, rocks of
any one of the three basic types (igneous,
    sedimentary, metamorphic) may eventually be
transformed into either of the other types.

3
Rock Cycle Part One
  • Magma solidifies (turns to a solid) and forms
    igneous rock
  • On Earths surface (extrusive igneous)
  • Beneath surface (intrusive igneous)

4
The Rock Cycle Part Two
  • Weathering and erosion occur to igneous rock and
    forms a sediment
  • Sediment becomes lithified (cemented/consolidated)
into a rock and forms sedimentary rock

5
The Rock Cycle Part Three
  • Sedimentary rock becomes buried/layered.
  • Increases in temperature and pressure changes
    rock to metamorphic rock
  • Temperature becomes really high, turns to lava
    again and the cycle continues
