learned of the fall of the Alamo, he ordered a
retreat and Gonzales burned. The colonists
panicked when they saw the Texan army retreating.
They left everything and burned their properties
while they headed toward the Sabine River.

capture April 22, the day after the battle he
was dressed as a peasant and when put in prison
with the other soldiers his own men stood and
called him El President. That is how the Texans
