Introduction to Buddhist Teaching
Spiritual transformation per Forsthoefel, isnt
becoming something you are not it is becoming
more who you are.
5
Introduction to Buddhist Teaching
  • The appeal of Buddhism in the West is due to
  • The erosion of reason in the postmodern world.
  • The consequence of materialism, war, ideologies
    and cynicism.
  • Alienation due to religious control, sexism, and
    patriarchy.
  • That Buddhism is emminently rational and
    therapeutic.
  • That it strives to see things as they really
    are.
  • That it is focused on the person and resistant to
    authority.
  • That it is not about belief and little to do
    with God.
  • That a key quality of all human beings is a deep
    holy longing.
  • That this impulse finds new expressions
    continuously in history.

8
Emptiness each is part of all.
Lynn Chazotsang last Monday commented often on
the Buddhist concept of Emptiness. The meaning
is not nihilism, or that nothing actually exists,
but that nothing has meaning by itself, that
nobody has meaning my them- self. Each and all
have meaning only in their relationship to
others.
9
Compassion our common purpose.
Inter-Faith dialogue today is less about
belief, and more about sharing our service to
humanity. The Dalai Lama is in Vancouver 26 - 29
Sep. for the Vancouver Peace Summit. At the
Nobel Laureates in Dialogue Connecting for
Peace, Karen Armstrong will announce her The
Charter for Compassion (TED prize project) The
Dalai Lama is in Calgary 30 Sep 2 Oct.
