The Globe Program in Saudi Arabia

GLOBE GOALS

• Enhances the environment awareness of
  individuals through world .
• Contributes to scientific understanding of the
  Earth .
• Improves student understanding of science by
  involving them in performing real science .
• Helps students to reach higher levels of
  achievements in English , science .
• Encourages students to self- learning and
  involved in the various of stages of scientific
  research.

Saudi Arabia joined the GLOBE

• The kingdom of Saudi Arabia joined the GLOBE
  Program as the 99th country in October 03,2002 .
  Officials from the kingdom of Saudi Arabia's
  Ministry of Education and the United States
  Department of state signed the bilateral
  Agreement September 30,2002 in Washington D.C.
• Taskforce has been formed for Globe
  implementation in Saudi Arabian schools. This
  team work supervising the activities of Globe
  program in schools of Saudi Arabia. Six schools
  started in January 2004, and gradually increasing
  by time. These schools are siting in many
  different places throughout the kingdom of Saudi
  Arabia.

Awards and International Achievements

• In less than six month from the first day
  students started to feed in their information and
  data some School had earned the Chief Scientists
  Honor Roll for Clouds.
• Students At some Saudi schools had covered and
  studied the moon eclipse on the night of May 4th
  2004. and wrote to the GLOBE Sight about that.
• On June 8th 2004 Students at Hamzah Bin Abdul
  mutalib and Al-Masudi School reported the events
  of the transit of venues ( The rarest Eclipse ) .

Globe Implementation

• The Ministry of Education had searched through
  the country and selected six different schools to
  start the GLOBE program for the first year 2003.
  Students Started to feed in their information to
  GLOBE sight December 27th 2003. By the year of
  2005 the GLOBE Program implemented in several
  schools located in thirteen regions as follows
• Riyadh
• Jeddah
• Dammam
• Aseir
• Qaseim
• Al-Jouf
• Tabouk
• Arar
• Baha
• Al-Madenah Al-Monawara
• Gazan
• Hail
• Najran

Local Activities

• Each GLOBE teacher had attended three training
  workshop as follow
• 1- The first one was held between December 22nd
  2003- December 24th 2003. in Riyadh at the
  Ministry Education about the Atmosphere protocol.
  
• 2- The Second training workshop was held between
  February 8th 2004 February 10th 2004. in
  Al-Jubail, East of Saudi Arabia. This workshop
  was about the Soil and Hydrology protocols.
• 3- The third workshop was held between 13-16
  March 2003 in Jeddah at the Holiday in Hotel.
  This was covering the Atmosphere, the Soil and
  Hydrology protocols.

International Activities

• The Globe program in Saudi Arabia has contributed
  of several activities in some countries such as
• An international workshop in New Zealand (12-21
  Januoary2003).
• An international workshop in Jordan (24-28 May
  2003).
• The third Globe regional conference in Bahrain
  (11-15 October 2003).
• The regional conference in Lebanon (22-26
  February 2004).
• Globe international Training Workshop in Bahrain
  (4-12 December 2004).
• Globe annual conference in Prague,
• Czech Republic (31 July -5 August 2005).
