  • Enforced under EU law on 13/2/03
  • Both Directives must be transposed into UK law by

COLLECTION
  • Recovery and recycling targets for separately
    collected WEEE
  • Proposals to develop existing CA site network

  • Work alongside Environment Agency

TREATMENT
  • All separately collected WEEE to be treated
  • Removal of substances and components (e.g. lead,
    mercury),
  • To be carried out by licensed operators according
    to standards.
  • Premises must have adequate storage facilities
    (i.e. weatherproof and with impermeable floors
    etc) for removed substances and components.

RECOVERY RECYCLING
  • Recovery and recycling targets apply only to
    separately collected WEEE - to be met by 2006

FINANCING
  • For household WEEE - producers to pay for their
    own products, bought onto the market from after
    15th August 2005
  • For business WEEE producers to pay for
    collection, treatment and recovery.
  • For pre-Directive historic WEEE producers
    must contribute to total costs according to
    market shares. Or option of visible fee (over 8
    yrs)
