Beamline status
  • Beamline in regular operation with users since
    July/August 2007
  • More instruments are required, thus building
    process/ developement is still going on
  • New and some existing instruments will need to be
    integrated into EPICS.

Specific information
  • Beamline scientists use SPEC to control the
    beamline, thus we dont have to worry about the
    GUIs very much. Only the low level EPICS layer
    is required, the rest is done by SPEC scripts.
  • Interface to the new encoder card is specific,
    based on Babaks driver. I tried to be backwards
    compatible towards Elkes templates for old
    cards. Thus the old GUI still works, but the
    newer works better.

Problems
  • Monochromator encoders
  • It happened twice that the encoders ran away
    (thus lost position) cause unknown, possibly
    external interference.
  • Since then, the new encoder cards are installed
    and index mark usage is enabled, thus position
    can be recovered.
  • but (!)
  • Do not move the monochromator crystals by
    yourself (to recover the encoders) because they
    can collide !
  • One vacuum incident
  • One vacuum pump is too weak and thus one vacuum
    safety sensor is on the limit, but this is not
    really control problem
