17Crop Production Number of Projects 20 Jute
9 Mesta 7 Sunnhemp 2 Ramie
1 Sisal 1 Major Emphasis Nutrient
Management Weed Management Seed Production
18Crop Production - Salient Achievements Jute The
new C. olitorius genotype CO-58 (currently under
adaptive trial) responded to fertilizer
application upto 1005050 kg ha-1 dose at
Coochbehar and Kalyani. The two new C.
capsularis genotypes (under adaptive trial) NDC
2028 and RRPS-27-C-3 also responded to
fertilizer application upto 804040 kg ha-1
level at Nagaon.
19Nutrient Management The soil test based INM
treatment (100 NPK on ST-TY FYM _at_
5 t ha-1) recorded maximum fibre yield of
jute and grain yield of rice at Kalyani, W.B.
and Kendrapara, Orissa. Under acid soil
situation 100 NPK on ST-TY FYM _at_ 5 t ha-1
lime application on 50 LR was found suitable
for jute at Coochbehar, W.B. and for mesta at
Amadalavalasa, A.P.
20Integrated Weed Management Quizalofop ethyl _at_
1.5-2.0 ml/l water at 15 DAE 1 hand weeding at
7-10 days after application of herbicides showed
better performance in jute at Nagaon, Katihar
and Kalyani and in mesta at Aduthurai.
Trifluralin (48 EC) _at_ 0.50 kg a.i./ha 1 DBS 1
hand weeding at 7-10 days after application of
herbicides was found to perform better in mesta
at Amadalavalasa.
21Mesta The new roselle genotype AHS-125 recorded
significantly higher fibre yield (30.05 q ha-1)
and responded to fertilizer dose upto 603030
kg ha-1 level at Aduthurai. The mesta crop when
intercropped with maize or cluster bean in 31
row ratio, recorded significantly higher system
equivalent yield (33.16 32.01 q ha-1) at
Amadalavalasa. Nutrient Management Split
application of N in mesta, with or without
organic matter (FYM / vermicompost) at different
doses resulted into higher fibre yield of mesta
at Amadalavalasa.
22- Paper Pulp
- The pooled data of 2005-2008 at Amadalavalasa
and Aduthurai centres indicated - the mesta variety AMV-5 produced maximum
stripped biomass (250.6 q ha-1) at
Amadalavalasa and green biomass (538.4 q ha-1) at
Aduthurai - The variety responded significantly upto maximum
N dose under testing, i.e., 80 kg ha-1 at both
the centres which clearly indicated that higher
N doses (gt80 kg ha-1) needed to be tested both at
Aduthurai and Amadalavalasa.
23Sunnhemp Combined use of FYM, Rhizobium and PSB
lead to 50 replacement of RDF without
sacrificing fibre yield of sunnhemp at
Pratapgarh. Maximum seed yield of sunnhemp was
obtained with SH-4 variety (6.62 q ha-1)
when the crop was sown between 15th May to 1st
June both at Aduthurai and Amadalavalasa. Ramie
At Coochbehar, maximum value of yield attributes
and fibre yield of ramie during both 1st and 2nd
cuttings was observed when 150 of the
recommended fertilizer dose was applied to the
crop.
24Sisal The fertilizer dose of 1203030 (N P2O5
K2O, kg ha-1) recorded significantly higher
number of leaves as well as leaf length at
Amadalavalasa. In sisal based agroforestry
system at SRS Bamra, A. sisalana recorded
higher fibre yield of the crop when grown with
teak tree (Tectona grandis L.) while hybrid
sisal variety performed better when grown with
gambhar trees (Gmelina arborea L.).
25Crop Protection Number of Projects 9 Jute
5 Mesta 3 Sunnhemp 1 Major
Emphasis Incidence pattern of disease and
insects Control of diseases by biological
agents IPM practices
26- Crop Protection Salient Achievements
- Semilooper, apion and yellow mite were the major
pests on jute - The incidence of semilooper, apion and yellow
mite was the highest in Nagaon (41.1-46.3),
Katihar (25.4-37.7) and CRIJAF (95.8)
respectively. - The stem rot and anthracnose incidences were
10-13 and 80- 90 in tossa jute at Barrackpore.
- The root rot incidence varied from 15.5 on JRO
66 at Tal Baghal to 46.0 on NDC 9102 at
Ramghari. - The olitorius germplasm OIN 911 and OIJ 299
were resistant to semilooper and jute beetle,
respectively.
27- Management of Macrophomina disease
- CRIJAF
- Seed dressing with 10 gm/kg Trichoderma viridae
SD formulate alone and one soil application of
T. viridae at 7 DAS were comparable with
tebuconazole seed treatment in controlling
Macrophomina diseases. - Bahraich
- Seed dressing with Trichoderma viride,
Aspergillus niger and Pseudomonas fluorescens in
combination with tebuconazole (Raxil-5 _at_ 2.5g/kg
of seed) followed by soil inoculants application
at 15 DAS was observed to be the superior
treatment.
28- Efficient insecticides
- The neonicotinoids, imidacloprid and
thiomethoxam were found to be superior over the
acetamiprid in managing the whitefly Bemisia
tabaci in mesta. - Endosulfan and triazophos were more effective
in reducing the yellow mite population in
CRIJAF. Profenofos and endosulfan were superior
in controlling the semilooper and were on par
with each other at Nagaon. - Spinosad and profenofos were effective in
reducing the leaf damage caused by semilooper at
Kendrapara and Coochbehar. - Imidiacloprid and thiomethoxan were effective
to control white fly, carrier of yellow vein
mosaic disease at Coochbehar.
29- Fibre Quality
- C. olitorius L.
- IET
- The fibre tenacity, NOJ-13 ( 29.1 g/tex) and
JRO-3608 (28.6 g/tex) were better than national
check at Nagaon. - BCCO-2 (2.7 tex) and JROM-1 (2.8 tex) had
better fineness than national check. - NOJ-13 ( 28.4 g/tex) exhibited better strength
at Kalyani than national check. - AVT-I
- Better fibre fineness was recorded with
JRO-2407 (1.7 tex) at Kalyani and with CO-509
(2.5 tex) at Nagaon. - Maximum fibre strength was recorded with CO-509
( 27.5 g/tex) at Nagaon -
30- AVT-II
- Fibre tenacity (28.7 g/tex) and fineness (2.3
tex) of JBO-5 was slightly higher than national
check at Kalyani. - C. capsularis L.
- IET
- The fibre tenacity value of the variety
NCJ-27-34 was better than national check whereas
JRM-2 had better fineness at Nagaon and Kalyani. - AVT-I
- The fibre tenacity value of NDC-2021 was better
than national check. The best fibre fineness was
recorded for NCJ-27-30 at Nagaon and NDC-2021
recorded at Kalyani. - AVT-II
- NA-15 and NCJ-9 recorded better strength than
national check. JBC-3 recorded better fineness.
