  • Henry Tudor, the second child of Henry VII, was
    born

  • Henry was a very tall, athletic, handsome guy
    with blue eyes
  • He could speak 5 languages
  • As a young man, he enjoyed dancing, gambling,
    hunting, horseback riding, tennis, composing
    music. He could also play the harp and viola
  • He is described as a supreme egotist
  • In his later years he became grossly fat,
    paranoid, and unpredictable

  • Death of Henry VII Henry VIII became King of
    England, aged 17
  • Henry married Katherine of Aragon

  • Katherine was 5 years older than Henry
  • She was the daughter of King Ferdinand and Queen
    Isabella of Spain
  • She was originally married to Henrys brother
    Arthur
  • Henry married Katherine to maintain the alliance
    with Spain after Arthur had died
  • Katherine was a Queen for 24 years
  • She gave birth to a daughter Mary and a son
    Henry, but he died when he was only 7 weeks old

    to Elizabeth
  • Their relationship after the birth of Henrys
    second daughter started to deteriorate

    quite the opposite to Anne

  • After Janes death Henry was advised to marry
    Anne of Cleaves to make an alliance with Germany
  • Henry didnt want to marry an ugly lady, so he
    sent a painter to paint a portrait of her. The
    portrait persuaded him to marry her. However,
    when she arrived in England, Henry found her
    ugly. He insulted her by saying that she looked
    like a horse
  • Therefore Anne was Queen only for 6 months but
    she stayed at the Court

  • Henry married Catherine Howard

Catherine Howard
  • First cousin of Anne Boleyn she was 19 and
    Henry 49 when they got married
  • Katherine made the aging and ailing king feel
    young again
  • But she had love affairs that eventually broke
    Henrys heart
  • She was beheaded (along with the lovers) at the
    Tower of London in 1542 with an axe

  • She was in love with Jane Seymours handsome
    brother Thomas, but her family wanted her to be
    the Queen of England
  • Henry married Catherine as he needed somebody to
    look after him in his old age
  • She reunited Henry with his 3 children who all
    came back to the Court
  • After Henrys death she married Jane Seymours
    brother
