3This is a video tutorial of a sprint start in
athletics.
4Positioning 1 for Sprint Start.
On your marks. Crouch down on one knee, make
sure your knee is touching the ground. Arch your
back and place your hands a little wider than the
shoulders. Make sure ONLY your fingertips are
touching the ground. Keeping your eyes focused on
the ground ahead of you will help your balance,
focus and relaxation.
5Positioning 2 for Sprint Start.
GET SET. Raise your hips to a level just above
your shoulders. Keep your fingertips in the same
position. Dont look at the track in front of
you, itll cause you to loose balance. Wait for a
starting signal.
6Positioning 3 for Sprint Start.
GO. GO. GOOO!!!!!!!! Try not to travel to far,
stride to start with. Thrust your elbows as high
as possible with each backward swing and drive
your legs with a high knee action . Keeping your
body low in your opening strides will thrust you
forward.

Equipment. The baton has to be smooth and made
out of either wood or metal.
Rules when setting off. In all sprint events the
starter will announce, On your marks, and then,
Set. At the set command runners must have
both hands and at least one knee touching the
ground and both feet in the starting blocks.
Their hands must be behind the start line. If
the runner has a false start in the Olympics that
is all they are permitted too, if they have
another false start, they are disqualified. Rules
on the race In all races the runners must stay in
the lane they are resigned to stay in. In the
Olympics the winner is the first persons Torso
(not the head, arm or leg) crosses the finish
lane. Relay The batter can only passed in the
exchange zone. If the batter is exchanged outside
the zone the team will be disqualified. Members
off the team must stay out of the way so they do
not block the way of the runner. The baton must
be carried by hand and no gloves may be worn
throughout the race.
