  • Do others have the
  • best interest for me?
  • 2. Do I have the best
  • interest for others?

8
Method
  • The ethical theory studied in class helped me to
realize who I am and what I wanted to do. It
strengthened my beliefs on what was right vs
wrong and good vs bad. I wasnt sure how they
were determined and what was to be accepted. It
was easy for me to be influenced by different
things but I slowly understood where my core
values came from. I accepted my past
experiences, whether it was positive and
negative, and made them into a learning
experience. Previously, the image I made for
myself was empty inside I was easily moved and
influenced but now I can create the image from
within which will reflect my image externally.
Even though I might have strong beliefs and
values, I can still be open-minded and gain an
    understanding of different ethical perspectives.

9
Values of the Community
  • I believe the values of community are important
because as a person, I am serving a purpose in
life. The community surrounding me is where I
learn most of my knowledge. I could choose to
accept the values of the communities from the
experiences and decide what I want to control.
Some negative experiences have been my excuses to
get out of personal responsibilities. However, I
now realize what I can do and what I should not
do based on them and they have been ways of
pushing myself out of my comfort zone to build a
foundation of where I can continue to grow. It
will be part of the adult community as I continue
to mature and learn to be understanding whatever
the circumstances or problems I must face.

10
The Big Lebowski
  • Theme The different ethical frameworks and the
    conflicts that associate with them.
  • The dude, Walter, and Donny reminded me of my
friends and their perspectives on life. No
matter what the conflict was, no matter what the
circumstances came, they always had each other
and a place where they met- the bowling alley.
Theres a sense of belonging, like a 2nd home,
even though they are not able to come together
    mentally.

11
Return to Paradise
  • Theme What your values are and how much
sacrifice you are going to make to stand up for
    them.
  • It made me wonder what it would take for me
sacrifice for my friends and family. My belief
that when you are able to take care of yourself,
you can help out others came into question
because the timing would make a big difference in
where I would stand. If saving someone would be
worth more than saving yourself. I would be able
to sacrifice myself if it would create an
advantage for the greater amount of people than
    if it was just myself.

12
The Fog of War
  • Theme What you might think is right may be wrong
    with others.
  • Everyone has different opinions but you have to
understand them to be able to make the better
decisions. You can have a strong foundation for
your ethical framework but if you are unwilling
to accept and listen to others, then there are
consequences for determining your own morality.
McNamuras first lesson was emphasize with your
enemy. It does not mean being influenced by them,
it just means that you have to realize what the
values of others are to make a decision that will
    benefit your own interest.

13
Bigger Than Enron
  • Theme Who is protecting the public?
  • I didnt really think about public protection
before this class. Before, it was all about
getting the best for yourself. Still in some
mindsets, there are people that havent realize
their actions as a social responsibility. If we
are not aware of the need for protecting
ourselves and others, then it is easy to get
deceived into the control of others. It is hard
to distinguish what would be in the best interest
for the people, the integrity of the business or
give them the numbers that they want. The
accounting methods used to change the actual
numbers was important because it would produce
    long-term consequences.

14
The Corporation
  • Theme Does anything substantial really stand up
for the image that they portray outwardly?
  • I think the concept of corporation as an
individual was insightful. It is how some
individuals are like. They create an image for
    themselves outwardly and superficially because
the society creates a world based on those
characteristics and traits. But if you want to
have an image of quality and respect, then your
actions must have quality and respect to be shown
as your true self. It is easy to get carried away
by the influences in life because everyone wants
to be like everyone else but they forget who they
are in the process. It was like that for me in
the past, but now I have figured out that it is
not image first and you have to make yourself the
basis of who you are trying to be. You have to be
able to look in the mirror and see that person in
the mirror is the person you want to be.
  • The dilemma with Monsanto and Fox news was
important because it made me realize how far
someone might really go to protect their own name
    and image.
