DALLAS CONVENTION CENTER EXPANSION AND RENOVATION
2002 PROJECT
2PROJECT PLANNING BACKGROUND
- In October 1997 a market analysis commissioned by
the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau
recommended expansion of the existing facility. - In December 1997 Dallas City Council was
presented with an action plan and financial plan
to expand the Convention Center. This plan was
implemented and 125 million in financing was
secured with the issuance and sale of City of
Dallas, Texas Civic Convention Complex Revenue
Refunding and Improvement Bonds, Series 1998. - On June 24, 1998 Dallas City Council authorized
the design services with the Architect and
Construction Manager after a qualification based
selection process. - This projects design process commenced with a
Pre-design Programming Phase and to update the
Master Plan. This design phase provided an
updated Master Plan which identified the optimum
conceptual design approach to this expansion and
renovation achievable within budget and schedule
parameters.

6PROJECT IMPACT
- The market analysis commissioned by the Dallas
Convention and Visitors Bureau forecasted that
expanding the existing 523,726 square feet of
prime, contiguous, exhibit hall space by 200,000
square feet would - Increase usage (square footage days) by an
estimated 60. - Attract an additional 500,000 visitors per year.
- Allow Dallas Convention Center to accommodate
multiple major conventions at the same time. - Detailed information about the Dallas Convention
Center facilities can be viewed on their website - www.dallasconventioncenter.com
