Environment of 1972(Stockholm Declaration)
  • An international conference Convened under the
    United Nations from June 5-16 in 1972.
  • It was held in Stockholm, Sweden.
  • It was the UNs first major conference on
    international environmental Issues.
  • Attended by the representatives of 113 countries,
    19 inter-governmental agencies, and more than 400
    inter-governmental and non-governmental
    organizations.
  • At the end the meeting agreed upon 26 principles
    concerning the environment and development.
  • It laid the framework for future environmental
    cooperation between countries.

26 Principles
  • A major issues that was addressed was the use of
    CFCs that seemed to be depleting the ozone.
  • Creation of environmental agency known as the
    UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme)
  • The principles were aimed at conservation of
    Earths natural resources.
  • Also a 109 part action plan with recommendations
    and resolutions.
