King Canute on the Seashore
11
  • Do you think Canute was a very good King? Why?
  • Yes, because he was able to let his officers and
courtiers to realize that God alone is the true
    King.
  • Yes, King Canute did not allow his power to rule
    his head.

12
What did you learn from this true story?
  • learned that to be powerful is to acknowledge
that God is the only source of power
  • learned to be humble like King Canute.

13
But what kind of a king is Jesus? Why did the
people of His time not recognize His kingship?
Is he really a king?
14
Luke 2226
- These words are spoken by Jesus to the
disciples who were aspiring to be the greatest. -
It is a basic description of leadership that
Jesus used as King.
Let the greatest among you be as the youngest,
and the leader as the servant I am among you as
the one who serves.
15
Present truths of Jesus kingship
  • Jesus is king as He was anointed by the Father at
    His Baptism

16
At the Baptism of Jesus, the Father anointed Him,

This is my Beloved Son in whom I am well
pleased.
17
Present truths of Jesus kingship
  • Jesus is King as He was welcomed by the people in
Jerusalem on the first Palm Sunday

    Pilate

19
Church Teaching
Second Plenary Council of the Philippines 61
He was a King. But he washed the feet of His
own disciples
20
How did Jesus use the power the Father has given
Him?
  • Jesus used the power the Father has given Him by
giving life and building up Gods Kingdom here on
    earth.
  • Jesus used the power the Father has given Him by
    becoming a King who serves.

21
SUMMARY
  • Jesus is a King who serves, as He did in the
    Washing of the disciples Feet.
  • We share in this kingly mission of Jesus by

worship of the Father when done in the spirit of
    prayer and love.

26
Your parish priest and the Catholic priests
through the ages are ordained priests. They are
called by God and receive the sacrament of Holy
Orders.
27
They have four dimensions of ministry, namely,
disciple, apostle, presbyter and presider at
the Eucharist
28
Disciple the priest is called to follow Jesus
Apostle - he is sent to serve in the mission of the Church
29
Presbyter he is responsible for the pastoral care of the Church and her members
Presider at the Eucharist he offers the sacrifice of the Mass.

30
Sacred Scriptures
Hebrews 58-10  Son though he was, he learned
obedience from what he suffered and when he was
made perfect, he became the source of eternal
salvation for all who obey Him, declared by God
as high priest according to the order of
Melchizedek.
31
  • Jesus is the High Priest (Heb 32 414).
  • He is the unique mediator of the New Covenant
between God and humankind. (CFC 1954)

32
  • Jesus is divine, therefore, He is not only the
spokesman of God. He is Emmanuel, God-among-us.
  • He is the perfect mediator, for in His being, the
perfect union of God and man is fulfilled.

33
  • Jesus fulfills His being High Priest by His
actions. His whole life was an offering to God.
His death is the perfect sacrifice and His
resurrection brings salvation to us all.

34
What is the challenge now?
The challenge for us, is to make Christs perfect
sacrifice ever present and operative in our
lives. Thus our sharing in the priestly mission
of Christ is an ongoing call to live a life of
sacrifice.
35
The Church continues to call us to participate
in the threefold mission of Jesus as members of
the Church, namely, as prophet, king and priest.
Furthermore PCP II calls us to build the Church
of the Poor as a priestly community.
36
  • PCP II gives three dimensions of how we live this
    communal sharing in Christs priesthood
  • as a consecration - our commitment to God in
    everything we do
  • as mediating Gods plan - our work to transform
    the world
  • as sacrifice of life together with Christ - our
task to celebrate in the Eucharist

37
How are we going to participate in the threefold
mission of Jesus as members of the Church?
As a prophet?
As a King?
As a Priest?
38
Jesus as a prophet spoke of Gods word backed
up with deeds of power and life witnessing
