Table of Seven Deadly Sins
  • Painted between 1480-1485
  • Main circle is the pupil of an eye
  • Around the pupil, the words Beware beware the
    lord sees.
  • Each of the seven sins are depicted around the
    eye and in the surrounding 4 circles
  • In each of the circles, the people who are
    committing the sin suffer forever.
  • Christ rises again in the upper right.
  • In the lower left people suffer in hell.

    insane and ugly people.

The Garden of Earthly Delights
  • Painted between 1500-1505
  • Consisted of two narrow panels surrounding one
    big panel in the center.
  • Main idea is mans insatiable lust and gluttony.
    (Adam and Eve in the garden, and after their
    fall)
  • Considered Heretical.
  • All three show numerous nude figures (male and
    female)
  • They are showing love in various forms
  • As you move your eyes across the panels the
    seasons change from jungle to a barren dark
    winter wasteland.
  • Adam and Eve are present along with Christ
  • Animals are eating other animals
  • Satan and demons are produced in the panel to the
    right.
  • Death is the main focus on the right.
