3Logging On
- To begin logging onto Millennium, click on the
Millennium icon on the Desktop indicated by the
arrow. - You will see the gray pop-up box asking for a
Username and Password. Enter milcirc for both.

- You will see another pop-up box asking for
Initials and Password. Enter circ for both. - There will be a brief pause while the program
loads.
5Circulation Desk
- Once Millennium is loaded you will see this
screen. - Look at the menu on the left and notice that you
are on the Circulation Desk tab.
6Checking Books In
- To check books in first click on the Check-In
button.

- Next you would click on the white space and scan
the books. - Since we have no books in front of us, type the
following number 110000331315. - Then click on the Search button.

- The book is now checked in.

- Notice that when a book is overdue the fine shows
up under the Amount Due heading and the number
of days the book was late shows up under the
Status heading. - Notice that the exact date the book was due is
not listed on this screen.
10Patron Processing
- You may access a patrons record in one of two
ways. - Arrow 1 indicates where to scan a patrons ID.
- Arrow 2 indicates the Search button that allows
you to manually search for patrons.

11Patron Processing (2)
- When you choose to search for a patron manually,
you will get the following drop down menu. - We can search for patrons by Barcode, Name, and
Unique ID.

- Barcode is the barcode on the patrons ID.
- Name is the patrons full name. This should be
entered Last Name, First Name as it was in NOTIS. - Unique ID is the patrons Social Security Number.
Enter this number without dashes.

- The sample patron is Scooby Doo. To locate his
patron record click on Name in the drop down
menu and enter Doo, Scooby. Then click Search.

- When a patrons record is loaded, any messages
attached to their record will pop up on the
screen. - On the Fly is a message that pops up when a
patron is entered into the system manually. - Examples of this are Alumni Association or Thomas
Cooper Society members. Click OK to continue.

- If a patron has a hold item waiting for them, a
reminder will pop up. Click OK to continue.

- Arrow 1 indicates Mr. Doos patron information
including Barcode, Address, Patron type, Amount
of Fines, and Unique ID. - Arrow 2 indicates the place to scan items for
check out.

- The tabs along the middle of the page allow you
to access the check out screen, checked out
items, holds, fines, and the check in screen. - Please note the fines tab is red. If a patron has
an item on hold, fines, or checked out items,
those tabs will be red. - When you are finished with this patrons record
make sure to hit the Close button at the top
right of the page.
18Checking Books Out
- Pull up Wonder Womans patron record.
- To check out items click on the white box and
scan the barcodes. - Since we have no books to scan, enter the
following barcode 110000331315. - Then click Search.

- Books and Things will be checked out to Wonder
Woman. - Notice that the due date will appear on the right
of the screen.
20Renewing books
- To renew books first click on the Renew icon.

- Next scan each books barcode.
- Since there are no books in front of us, type the
following barcode 110000331315. - Then click Search.

- A message will appear asking you if you would
like to renew the item to the patron. - If the it is the correct patron, click Yes.

- This message will appear if patrons try to renew
too soon after check-out. - An example of this would be a Graduate student.
Because Graduate students get semester check-out
they can only renew close to the end of each
semester after they have registered for the next
semesters classes. - To continue to renew the book click Override.
You would very rarely choose this option.

- The books title and the new due date will appear
on this screen. - The book is now renewed.
25Creating a New Patron
- To create a new patron click on the Circulation
Desk button. - Then click on the New button.

- There will be a series of pop up boxes asking for
patron information. - The first box will ask for the Expiration Date.
Enter the date in the following format
ddmmyyyy. For training purposes enter the end of
the semester 08/19/2005. Then click Next.

- The next box will ask for the Patron Type.
Double click in the pink shaded area between the
zeros.

- A box will pop up with the different patron
types. Click on the appropriate patron type
making sure that you choose one of the Columbia
categories. - For training purposes select Columbia Faculty.
Then click OK.

- Your choice will now show up in the pop up box.
If you chose the appropriate category, click
next to proceed.

- The next box will ask for Home Library.
- Double click between the nones.

- A box will pop up listing possible home
libraries. - Click on Columbia Cooper. Then click OK.

- Just like before, make sure you selected the
correct home library, Columbia Cooper and then
click Next.

- The next box will appear closer to the top of the
screen. It will ask for the Name. - Enter the patrons name as follows Last Name,
First Name. - For training purposes enter Woman, Wonder.
- Then click Next.

- The next box will ask for the Address.
- Enter the street address on the first line. For
training purposes enter 228 Incredible Lane. - Enter the city, state, and zip code on the second
line. For training purposes enter 4th Kingdom,
SC 29228. - Then click Next.

- This box allows you to add a secondary address.
You would enter this address in the same format
as the first address. - For training purposes pretend our patron has no
secondary address. - Click Next.

- The next box will ask for the Telephone Number.
- Unfortunately Wonder Womans phone was
disconnected last week. Dont enter a phone
number for her ? - Click Next.

- The next box will ask for the Unique ID No.
This is the Social Security Number. - For training purposes enter 618634875.
- Then click Next.

- The next box will ask for the Barcode.
Normally you would scan the back of the patrons
card. - For our purposes manually enter4859623657801
- Then click Next.

- The next box will ask for the patrons Email
address. - For training purposes enter woman_at_sc.edu.
- Then click Next.

- The next screen is the most important one.
- This is a training session, therefore our patron
already exists. DO NOT click save. - Normally you would have to click the Save
button, or all of the information you just
entered would be lost. After this session always
make sure to click Save before exiting a
patrons record. - For training purposes click the x to close the
box.

- This is what the screen will look like after
successfully creating a patron. - This is Wonder Womans patron record screen.
- To view her patron information screen simply
click the view button.
42Editing a Patrons Record
- To edit a patrons record click on the Edit
button.

- A box including all of the patrons personal
information will appear. - In order to edit double click on whichever field
you would like to change. - If any information needs to be added click the
Insert button.

- For example To edit Wonder Womans name click on
the Name field and type Denise as a middle
name. - Next click the Insert button.

- After clicking the drop down menu choose Note
to enter a message into the note field.

- Enter the message Beware of super powers.
- Then click OK.

- You will see your message in the note field.
- Again make sure to click the save button, or
all changes will be lost.

- After clicking the Save button the patrons
record will reflect any changes made.
49Recalling Items
- To recall an item start by clicking the
Search/Hold button. - You will see this screen.

- Click the arrow beside Title for a drop down
menu. You can search by any of the categories
listed. - For our purposes click on Title.

- Type the title Without My Wig
- From this screen we can choose to limit the
search. - Click on the Limit button.

- You can limit your search by any of the choices
listed. - The most common reason we will choose to limit
our search is to look for books located only at a
specific library. - Click on WHERE item is located.

- Select the library or collection for which you
want to limit your search. - For training purposes select Columbia Thomas
Cooper. - Then click Save.

- Next click the Search button.

- You will see the books information including
availability status. - Click on the Hold Selected Item button.

- You will get a pop up box asking for patron
information. As before, we can enter patrons by
Barcode, Name, or Unique ID.

- Lets go back into Wonder Womans record.
- Search for her by Name.
- Then click Search.

- This pop up box will ask first for Pickup
Location. This field should always say cc. - Next you are asked for dates Not Wanted Before
and Not Wanted After. - Not Wanted Before has to be todays date or
later. Not Wanted After must be a date after
the Not Wanted Before date. ? Confusing
enough? - Type todays date for the first date and
08/19/2005 for the second. Then click OK.
60Recalling Items (12)
- When you see this box you will always choose to
recall the item with the listed due date. - Click on that selection.

- This screen will give you confirmation that the
book has a hold on it.

- Always go back into a patrons record to make
sure the hold is listed.
63Creating Fines
- To create a fine first go into a patrons record.
- We want to add fines to Lisa Simpsons record.
Pull up her patron record. - Then click the Fines tab.

- You can see that right now Ms. Simpson owes no
fines. - To create a fine click the Add Charge button.

- You will be asked for an Amount, a Reason, and a
Location. - Under Amount type 5.00.
- Under Reason type Photoduplication.
- Under Location make sure you always see cc.
- Then click OK.

- You can see that she now owes 5.00 and the
Fines tab is now red.
67Paying Fines
- In order to pay fines you have to click on the
Collect Money button.

- A box asking for Amount To Collect will pop up.
Enter the amount paid. - Enter 2.00 and click OK.

- You will be asked if you would like to waive the
remaining fines. ALWAYS select No.

- You will see a copy of the receipt.
- Click Print.
- A copy of the receipt will print.

- The patrons record will now reflect the payment.
- Ms. Simpson now owes 3.00.

- If you need to view more detailed information
about a fine right click anywhere on the fine and
then click View This Fine.

- From this screen you can see more detailed
information and can adjust the fine amount.
74Forgiving Fines
- In order to forgive fines first select the fine
you intend to forgive by clicking on the box next
to it. - Then click the Waive Charges button.

- You will be asked to confirm that you want to
waive the selected fines. - Click Yes.

- You will see a copy of the receipt.
- Click Print.
- A copy of the receipt will print.

- As you can see no fines are listed.
