• My journey has been dedicated to helping kids,
  especially the "off the path" kids. I was one of
  them myself. Not every student is lucky enough to
  have a teacher, or adult, see his or her
  potential.

• If someone is asleep in bed dreaming, you
  don't necessarily want to see them in bed, but
  you might want to look at the dreams. I try to
  get as close to what the writer intended as
  possible - to get on their wavelength. The text,
  not the pictures, must lead the way.

Awards and Honors
In the UK, Michael Rosen's Sad Book has been
shortlisted for the Nestlé Children's Book Prize
2005 in the 6-8 years category. Hundreds of
schools will take part in the judging process to
decide the winner, which will be announced on
December 14th 2005. The book was also on the
shortlist for the Kate Greenaway Medal 2005 and
won an Exceptional Award in the 'English 4-11'
Awards for the Best Children's Illustrated Books
of 2004. It was considered to be so exceptional
that a special category was newly created by the
judges to honour it. On the other side of the
Atlantic, Michael Rosen's Sad Book has been
selected as an honour book for the 2005 Boston
Globe-Horn Book Awards, which are among the most
prestigious honours in the field of children's
and young adult literature in America. It has
also been selected by the Society of Illustrators
in New York for their annual original artwork
exhibition, which celebrates the Fine Art of

• To me, Quentin Blake and Peter H. Reynolds works
  are very similar in the sense that they both show
  emotion so perfectly in their cartoon-ish
  sketches. Picture books would be nothing without
  illustrations. Blake and Reynolds make this
  incredibly apparent as I read through each of the
  books that they illustrate, and they help me
  appreciate illustrations, not only in picture
  books, but chapter books as well.
