1
E-LEARNING MALAYSIAN UiTM EXPERIENCE
2
DEFINITION
E-Learning can be defined as the use of internet
technologies to deliver a broad array of
solutions that enhance knowledge and performance
based on three fundamental criteria E-learning
is networked, which makes it capable of instant
updating, storage/retrieval, distribution and
sharing of instruction or information
3
e-learning is delivered to the end user via a
computer using standard internet
technology e-learning focuses on the broadest
view of learning learning solutions that go
beyond the traditional paradigms of training.
Rosenberg, M. (2001)

  • e-learning can thus refer to online distance
    learning,
  • however, today it is being use to complement
    on-campus programmes, turning traditional
    learning into an online version.
  • It is also about using the technology within a
traditional campus-based learning to add value to
the learning experience and to support new ways
of learning in higher learning institutions and
    universities.

ONLINE LEARNING CONTINUUM
7
Todays Learners
  • The modern college student is interested in
online learning, small modules and short
programmesand in learning that can be done at
home and fitted around work, family and social
    obligations (Tony Bates)

8
  • Information-age learners prefer doing to knowing,
trial and error to logic and typing to
handwriting. Multitasking is a way of life for
them, staying connected is essential and there is
zero tolerance for delays. Modern literacy
includes not only text but also image and screen
literacy it involves navigating information and
    assembling knowledge from fragments (Oblinger
    Jones and Pritchard)
