Summary
  • Book 10 begins with Jupiter meeting with his
fellow gods and goddesses to discuss the coming
war between the Trojans and the Latins. Venus
blames Juno for the conflict between the two
groups, claiming Juno has again attempted to
interfere with fate and postpone the settlement
of the Trojans in Italy. Juno becomes angry with
Venus, and says that it is not her fault that the
Trojans want to settle in Italy, so therefore,
the fighting has nothing to do with her. Jupiter
grows weary of their arguing, and decides that he
will helps neither of their causes, and let fate
be what fate is. Meanwhile, Aeneas has gathered
more troops from the surrounding tribes. They
make their way by ship, with the aid of sea
nymphs, to the battle site. Turnus spots the
ships and leads his soldiers towards them. Pallas
kills many of Turnus troops, but falls short to
Turnus, who kills him and takes his belt as a
prize. Aeneas is enraged by Pallas death, and
slaughters his way towards Turnus. From above,
Juno begs Jupiter to let her save Turnus. Jupiter
agrees, but tells her that is fate permits it,
she is only delaying his death, not preventing
it. So Turnus floats away into a mist and ends up
on a ship. Mezentius takes over, but when his son
is killed, weakens, and is killed as well.
