4Kafka's Early Life
- Kafka was born into a financially steady family
in Prague in 1883 - Kafka was the first of six children in that
generation of Kafkas - Kafka had his Bar Mitzvah at the age of 13 in
1896 - Kafka was accepted to Charles University of
Prague to study Law - He first started work out of the University at an
Italian insurance agency where he had to work
from 8 P.M. to 6 A.M.
5Kafka's later life
- In 1912 at his best friend Max Brods house he
met Felice Bauer who Kafka in modern terms dated
for five years until the relationship ended in
1917 - In late 1917 he obtained tuberculosis, which
would stay with him for the remainder of his
life. - In early 1920 he got involved (romantically)
with a Czech journalist and that ended in 1923. - He then moved to Berlin briefly to focus on his
writing and be away from his family. - In Berlin, he lived with a 25 year old
kindergarten teacher named Dora Diamant and she
became his lover until he died a little over a
year later .

6Kafka's Literary works
- Kafka never actually had any of his works
published before he died. - The Person who published his works was Kafkas
close personal friend Max Brod. - The Metamorphosis (pictured right) was considered
to be Kafkas only finished novel. - He did have several short stories though
including - Description of a Struggle inspired by the statue
to the right - a Hunger Artist
- and a Country doctor just to name a few of his
many short stories.
7The Metamorphosis
The Metamorphosis revolves around a man named
Gregor Samsa who one morning awakes to feel
changed as if a metamorphosis took place. He
confirms this when he sees many legs waving in
the air to find that theyre his. He stuffs that
in the back of his mind and refuses to
acknowledge that it had happened. Throughout the
rest of the story he goes through his life being
more and more of an outcast even to his family
who near the end of the book refuse to
acknowledge his exsistence.
8Post-death Appreciation
- In 1991 a movie called Kafka was made that
portrayed Kafkas life - In 1993 another movie was made called Franz
Kafkas Metamorphosis visualizing his novel.
