  • Duty Radiologist
  • 0900-1100. 1500-1700 Mon- Fri
  • 0900 to 1700 Mon- Fri
  • Radiologist on-site until 830-900 pm.
  • Please have full patient information
  • Please remember to review the report if you have
    requested a test.

Plain films
  • All non-orthopaedic films are reported
  • Lateral Chest Radiograph is of extremely limited
    value
  • Accurate clinical details help us a lot!

CT scanning-Office hours
  • Please provide full clinical details- they are
    copied and stored electronically
  • Consultant request only.
  • Recent serum creatinine, Venflon

MR scanning
  • Private scanner ( Alliance)
  • Consultant request only
  • Contraindications to MR ( see back of request
    form)
  • Intracranial metallic clips
  • FB in eyes
  • Pacemakers (usually)
  • Patients with Renal failure- Gadolinium relative
    contraindication

How to organise an Urgent CT or MR scan?
  • Speak to the duty Radiologist.

Reports
  • Inpatient CT, MR and US- as soon as possible
    after scan ( Same day) ( Please check
    them before you go home)
  • AE/EAU- currently in about 2 days ( will improve)

Nuclear Medicine
  • The request form has to be authorised by ARSAC
    licence holders.
  • Low clinical probability for PE and normal CXR-
    VQ scan.
  • CTPA for others.

Interventional Radiology
  • Consultant request only
  • Blood tests Clotting, FBC.
  • If PT/APTT is high or low platelets- inform and
    discuss with Radiologist
  • If a patient needs FFP/platelets and we are
    planning to infuse 4 bags- give about 2 bags on
    the ward and leave the 3rd running when
    transferring to Radiology.
  • Venflon, antibiotics

Consultant Radiologist On call
  • Consultant referrals only ( except Stroke
    Imaging- Stroke nurses)
  • General Radiology On call
  • Interventional Radiology On call- Vascular and
    Non-vascular ( shared with Ipswich Hospital.
    Colchester is the Vascular centre)

  • The Radiologists offices are the clinical
    reporting areas. Please be mindful of that when
    you disturb them.
