1.What is VoIP ?
Voice over IP (Internet Protocol) is the
technology for transmission of voice over IP
network.
IP Connectionless communication

VoIP is "One of the leased line in the current

Background
TCP/IP is the de facto standard of Data
Communication
Analog Communication
Digital Communication
Data(Packet) Communication

VoIP(VoFR/VoATM)
Internet increases explosively, and has gained in
popularity. And as Data (IP) traffic increases,
it can pass the voice traffic.

1.1 What is the advantage of VoIP?
It is possible to reduce the cost of line and
telephone calls by the integration of voice and
data.

1.2 What are Characteristics of VoIP?
  • (1)Connectionless communication(IP,UDP)
  • The communication route cannot be secured.
  • (2)Best effort type communication
  • The quality is not guaranteed, when the
    traffic
  • becomes congested. (Telephone network is
  • Guarantee Type communication)
  • (3)QOS(Service quality) is weak
  • - Delay Time
  • - Jitter
  • - Packet loss
  • Therefore, it is necessary to implement
    the VoIP in
  • the network where QoS is controlled.
  • (4)Overhead is large
  • The header of the IP is long compared
    with the
  • header of the ATM and the Frame Relay.
  • Therefore, it reduces the delay time by
    the router
  • in the header compression.

1.3 What is the difference with VoXX?(1/2)
Good
Quality of Voice
Size of Network
Large
ltReason why VoIP is activatedgt (1) IP is based
on high layer, and it is possible to use without
the restriction of the line type. (2)The
range of application is wide and the
extendibility is also high. (3)The quality of
the VoIP device improved, and the price became
reasonable.

3.What is IP network for VoIP?
  • (1) Digital Leased Line
  • (2) IP-VPN
  • (3) Frame Relay(VoIP over FR)
  • (4) Internet
  • We dont recommend to use, because Internet
    is
  • the network type of Best effort and QoS
    is not
  • guaranteed by the following reasons.
  • - It is not possible to control the
    network.
  • - The delay is large.
  • - Non-symmetry network.

4.What is the protocol of ITU-T H.323?
(1) History of H.323 - V1(NOV., 1996)
Visual telephone systems and equipment for local
area networks which provide a
non-guaranteed quality of service. -
V2(FEB.,1998) Packet-based multimedia
communication systems. (2) H.323 is used as a
control protocol of the IP telephone.
H.323 is the current main system for making the
network IP in the future.

26
(3)Internal DNS facility
- You don't need the installation of the special
external H.323 gate keeper or DNS server by
using the data file of translation of the
number in IP Trunk. - KX-TDA0480 has an internal
DNS facility that can be used to perform this
task.

(4)Adaptive jitter buffer technology
- Voice is reproduced, after the packet is
accumulated in the buffer once. - KX-TDA0480
supports a secondary Jitter Buffer that
activates in a dynamic manner.(Regularly and Less
delay) - This feature can be configured to help
compensate for network congestion problems.

load and poor transmission conditions, a fax
communication may be dropped. - During a fax
connection, KX-TDA0480 send a Ring Back Tone
(RBT) until a fax connection is achieved.

from old information one by one, when 700 is
exceeded. (2) Fault information is memorized
when the fault occurs, and VP Trunk
informs(TRAP transmission) to the specified NMS.
(3) The alarm lamp of VP Trunk is lit according
to the content of the fault. (4) Recorded fault
log information can be output to the display by
the operation from the maintenance console.

7.What are Router Functions for the QOS?
  • (1)RSVP(Resource reServation Protocol)
  • (2)Collision prevention of voice and data
  • (Separating the port of LAN)
  • (3)Priority control for the Voice packet
  • (4)Securing the bandwidth
  • (5)Packet fragmentation
  • (6)RTP header compression

37
(1)RSVP(Resource reSerVation Protocol)
(1)RSVP is operated on IP router. (2)This is to
secure the bandwidth of the voice before the
communication, and to guarantee the bandwidth
of end to end. (3)The real-time data streaming
cannot be guaranteed, though RSVP can
guarantee Bandwidth. (4)It is necessary to have
RSVP function by all Router which passes to
use RSVP.
