Title: A Christmas Carol
 1A Christmas Carol
 2( After Ch. Dickens)
 3Part I
4Once upon a time old Ebenezer Scrooge ebiniz?
sat busy in his office. It was Christmas Eve. The
weather was cold and foggy.
5The door of Scrooges office was opened so that
he could keep an eye on his clerk, Cratchit, who
was writing letters. Scrooge paid him less than a
pound a week.
6Scrooge did not like to spend his money, that it
why the fire in his office was very small and Bob
Cratchits hands were so cold that he could not
write.
7Suddenly, a young and cheerful voice cried,
Merry Christmas, uncle! God save you! It was
his nephew.
8Humbug! said Scrooge, using his favourite
word. Merry Christmas! You have no right to be
merry. You are poor. Really, the nephew was poor
but happy, because had a family.
9Scrooge could not understand it. He thought that
love was even sillier than a Merry Christmas.
Scrooges nephew wanted to invite his uncle for
dinner with his family but Scrooge didnt want to
hear about it and the young man left wishing his
uncle a Merry Christmas.

collecting money for charity. He said that poor
peoples place was in prison and work houses.
Seeing that it was useless to say anything more,
the two men left.
12It grew colder and colder outside. The fog and
darkness thickened so that the ancient church
tower was hardly seen. A boy sang a Christmas
carol outside the front door of Scrooges office.
13Scrooge got very angry. He picked up a big ruler
and opened the door so quickly that the
frightened small singer ran away as fast as he
could.
 14Part II
15At last it was time to shut up the office. The
next day was twenty-fifth of December and the
office should be closed for Christmas. As soon as
Scrooge walked out, Bob Cratchit closed the
office and ran home to play Christmas games with
his children.
16Scrooge took his melancholy mel?nk?li dinner in
his melancholy tavern t?v?n read newspapers
and went home to bed. His house was dark and old.
17He was sitting alone before his small fire when
he had heard his doorbell ring. Then the heavy
door of Scrooges room opened and he saw a
ghost. It was the ghost of Marley mali , his
partner, who died several years ago.
18Why do you trouble me? he asked the ghost.
Marleys Ghost explained that he had been very
selfish when he was alive. He had been interested
only in money and had not cared about people
outside his office. Noe he was wearing a long and
heavy chain and he had no rest and no peace.
