  • In 1689, he became secretary for Sir William
    Temple
  • There Swift also was the teacher of a young girl,
    Esther Johnson

  • In 1704 he wrote two satirical pieces Tale of
    the Tub and Battle of the Books
  • In 1710 Swift tried to open a political career
    among Whigs but changed his party
  • When the Tories lost political power Swift
    withdrew to Ireland where he served as Dean of
    St. Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin
