Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) Alaska,
Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho,
Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota,
Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wyoming.

• Students may enroll in many public two-year and
  four-year college programs at a reduced tuition
  level 150 of the institutions regular resident
  tuition.
• For example, WUE students at Colorado State
  University save 7500/year in tuition.
• To be eligible for WUE, students must indicate
  when they apply they are interested in the WUE
  exchange.

Applying To Four YearPublic Universities

• Applications are available online.
• Follow directions carefully and meet deadlines!
• Complete SAT/ACT exams early enough to meet the
  colleges deadline. You must request official
  scores be sent from the test agency to the
  college or university.
• Request financial aid information from your
  college or university.
• Request official transcripts in the Counseling
  Center, at least two (2) days before your
  application is due. Three (3) copies of your
  transcript are provided without charge. For each
  additional copy, you must pay a fee of 5.00.
• Remember If you used a fee waiver for the SAT,
  see Mrs. Patterson for a college application fee
  waiver.

Early Decision vs. Early Action

• Early Decision
• Apply to one school.
• If accepted, you must enroll.
• Financial aid packages and scholarships may not
  be as lucrative since you cannot compare one
  schools package to another.

• Early Action
• You can apply to more than one school.
• Acceptance is non-binding.
• You have more opportunity to compare different
  financial aid and scholarship packages.

Letters of Recommendation for Private Universities

• At least 15 school days (3 work weeks) before the
  universitys deadline please do the following
• Pick up and complete the pink and blue handout
  packet in the counseling center.
• Make an appointment with your counselor through
  Mrs. Epstein.
• Give Mrs. Epstein or your counselor any secondary
  school reports and mid-year reports you need
  completed.
• Ask three teachers to complete the blue forms and
  return to your counselor by the given date--make
  sure to put a due date and names.

• Register online for the SAT and ACT.
• Arrange for SAT/ACT scores to be sent directly to
  colleges to which you are applying.
• Meet with college representatives that visit IHS.
• Begin online accounts for applications.
• Begin to follow procedures for letters of
  recommendation.
• Begin to research scholarships, financial aid,
  and college costs.
• Maintain or improve academic grades, stay
  involved in extra-curricular activities.

  info. Beware of scams!!

  achievements.
• Obtain good references in advance.
• Be neat, thoughtful and accurate.
• Apply frequently and apply on-time!

FAFSA For all students!

• FAFSA The Free Application For Student Aid must
  be filed to be eligible for any federal student
  financial aid and many school loans.
• Go online and request a PIN now!
• You CANNOT file a FAFSA application before
  January 1, but close to it is recommended. It is
  helpful to have accurate information, but you may
  estimate.
• Complete the on-line FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov
• Submit a FAFSA form even if you think you may not
  qualify. Some scholarships require that you
  dont qualify for federal aid.

NCAA

• If you are a student athlete you must file with
  the NCAA Clearinghouse in order to be eligible
  for interscholastic competition at any 4-year
  Division I or II college or university.
• Check online early, as there are core courses and
  minimum GPA and SAT/ACT scores that are required
  for eligibility.
• Dont be benched! Even if you are recruited, you
  must meet minimum eligibility requirements.

Avoid the Senior Slump!

• Colleges will rescind their offers of admission
  if you do not maintain satisfactory academic
  progress!
• We have reviewed the final grades for over 5,000
  students whose final transcripts we have received
  to date. We have contacted those who have had a
  serious decline in their academic performance
  during their senior year and revoked admissions
  for several students. The University of Michigan
• The provisions of your Admission Contract
  require that you maintain the grade point average
  and complete the courses reported on your
  application. Due to the decline in your academic
  performance during the spring term, your academic
  record no longer meets the standards for
