Shaving
  • Most common method of removal
  • Cuts hair off at epidermis
  • Can cause the folliculitis
  • Does not stimulate hair growth!!!
  • Barbers still give great shaves!

Waxing
  • Warm or cold wax applied to skin
  • Pulls hair out of skin
  • Hair can break off in skin
  • Can cause follicultis
  • Salon waxing can be expensive
  • Stimulates hair growth of certain facial areas!!

Threading
  • Employees a looped twisted thread
  • Does not cause trauma to skin
  • Inexpensive
  • Very Popular in Middle Eastern countries
  • Hard to find in US

Chemical Depilatory
  • Dissolves hair below skin surface
  • Strong odor
  • Skin reacts as natural barrier is removed
  • Depilatory chemicals
  • 1. Calcium thioglycolate capable of causing
    keratin of hair to degrade
  • 2. Sodium thioglycolate dissolves hair
  • 3. Sodium hydroxide strong alkaline
    substance
  • Chemical used for years to remove hair from
    animal hides!

  • Employees tweezers
  • Time consuming
  • Uncomfortable
  • Can stimulate hair grow
  • Can destroy hair in thin skin areas!
  • Employed by electrologist to remove epilated hair
    from skin

Bleaching
  • Not a method of hair removal used to lighten
    hair
  • Strong odor
  • Do not use on pelvic and eye areas
  • Bleaching agents
  • 1. Hydrogen peroxide removes color
  • 2. Ammonium bicarbonates softens hair

  • Abrasion gloves
  • Skin held tight while modality is employed in a
    circle to buff hair away
  • Removes hair at surface of skin

  • Electrical spring like device with coils that
    epilates hair
  • Painful
  • Takes time to tolerance
  • Hair must be ΒΌ in long to work

Electronic Tweezers Home Electrolysis Devices
  • Hard to use
  • Hair does not conduct current in tweezer devices
  • Home electrolysis devices does not conduct energy
    to permanently remove hair
  • Professional tweezer devices not permitted in
    Ohio!

  • Expensive
  • Not to be used with electroloysis or laser hair
    removal treatment plans
  • Use only on face
  • Inhibites hair growth
  • Vaniqua trade name
  • Requires compliance
