How do Antilipemic Drugs Work?

• Alter production, Alter metabolism, Assist in
  removal of lipids and lipoproteins

Who takes Antilipemic Drugs?

• Clients with elevated cholesterol
• When 6 months of life style changes and diet
  changes do not lower cholesterol
• Those with coronary artery disease (CAD)
• Those with family history
• Those with other disease processes DM, HTN,
  SMOKERS)

• Check for lowering of cholesterol
• Take in the evening
• Observe for side effects
• GI problems
• Abnormal liver enzymes
• Muscle pains

• Prevention of stroke, heart attack, peripheral
  artery disease
• Continue on low fat diet
• Increase sensitivity to light
• Take in the evening
• Liver Function tests are recommended at first
  6-12 weeks then every 6-12 months
