Hard Words
  • Eccentricities No one had taught him these
wicked, joyous quirks and eccentricities. I think
it means skills. Actual Definition deviation
from an established pattern or norm especially
    odd or whimsical behavior.
  • Consolation Prize But I received the consolation
prize, a real league baseball autographed by
every member of our local team. I think it means
the other prize. Actual definition a prize given
to a runner-up or lose in a contest
  • Rapturously He perched between us on the back of
the seat, gazing rapturously at us. I think it
means crazily. Actual Definition a state or
experience of being carried away by overwhelming
    emotion
  • Arboreal It is even more exciting to move from
one arboreal region into another than to move
from watershed to watershed. I think it means a
forest like area. Actual Definition of, relating
    to, or resembling a tree.
  • Enticing One window at the end of the gable
offered enticing possibilities. I think it means
great or good. Actual Definition To attract
artfully or adroitly or by arousing hope or
    desire.

World War I
  • Nearly 10 million soldiers died and about 21
    million were wounded.
  • World War I began in August 1914 when Germany
    invaded Belgium and France.
  • A consequence of World War I was that four
empires collapsed the Russian Empire in 1917,
the German in 1918, the Austro-Hungarian in 1918,
    and the Ottoman in 1922.
  • Another consequence was that the Bolsheviks took
    power in Russia.
  • My last consequence I have is that most Arab
lands that had been part of the Ottoman Empire
came under the control of Britain and France.
