Biography
  • 1844 Born in Ashfield, Massachusetts.
  • Childhood was modest, and conservative.
  • Started in Theology then switched to physical
    psychology.
  • First American Ph. D. in Psychology
  • 1924 Died

Theories
  • Adolescences attention seeking, risk takers, and
    depend on strong friendships. Ages 14-24.
  • Accepted Lamarck's theories of acquired
    characteristics, which implied that traits are
    passed down through generations. Ex) Giraffes
  • Adolescence is inherently a time of storm and
    stress

  • Pre-adolescent children develops best when not
    forced to follow constraints.
  • At age 7 unable to reason, show sensitivity to
    religion, and social discernment.

    America.
  • 1889 Became the President of Clark University in
    Worcester, Massachusetts.
  • 1892 First President of American Psychological
    Association
  • Produced over 400 books

  • His ideas and their applications remain
    foundational in education, scouting, and sport
    teams.
  • He changed the way the world saw adolescences.
