Goals of Internship
  • Use knowledge of calf health, nutrition, and
    products to earn increased calf business on
    dairies who are not currently doing business with
    Land O Lakes Purina Feed
  • Make 4-5 good sales calls a day
  • Learn how to interact within a sales team
    structure
  • Learn how to effectively run on farm calf trials
    and develop written proposals

Goals of the Cows Match Program
  • To have calves reach their full genetic potential
  • To grow a healthier calf
  • To have calves that are 56 pounds heavier, 3
    inches taller, and 5 ½ inches longer at weaning

Feeding Rates
  • .9 pounds of powder and 2 quarts of water 2x a
    day for 7 days
  • 1.25 pounds of powder and 2.8 quarts of water 2x
    a day from week 2 to the week before weaning
  • 1.25 pounds of powder and 2.8 quarts of water 1x
    a day during week 7 for 7 days

Analysis
  • 1 inch taller, longer, and wider will give an
    animal 25 more gallons of body volume
  • 22-25 total volume is the rumen
  • This equals 5 gallons more rumen capacity
  • 5 gallons2-3 lbs. additional DMI
  • Each additional pound of intake equals 2-3 pounds
    more milk
  • Approximately 4-9 pounds additional milk for
    animals that are 1 inch bigger at calving
