After Foaling
  • 12 to 24 hr Uterine size reduced, obvious
    discharge normal
  • 5 to 15 days Involution, resorption of
    microcaruncles by d7, Foal heat, cervix does not
    normally close until after ovulation.
  • Day 10 mares with ovulations after day 10 post
    foaling have more normal conception and pregnancy
    rates.

  • Delayed uterine involution
  • Uterine infection
  • Uterine horn invagination
  • Prolapsed uterus
