Lessons Learned Definition and Examples
A Lesson Learned is knowledge and
experiencepositive or negativederived from
actual incidents such as the 1995 Oklahoma City
bombing and the 9/11 attacks as well as
observations and historical study of operations,
training, and exercises.

Lesson Learned Fire Department Operations
Regional Logistics Resource Team
  • Context
  • ACFD was not prepared to perform long-term
logistics functions in the immediate response to
the Pentagon attack on 9/11. Fairfax County Fire
and Rescue Dept Logistics team stepped in to help
the ACFD organize, staff, and manage long-term
    logistics functions throughout the operations.
  • Lesson Learned
  • Regions should organize experienced fire
department logisticians into a regional logistics
resource team that could augment the logistics
staff of the responsible jurisdiction in case of
    a large-scale emergency.
