• The engineers job is to design and determine how

  together
• To pick the proper materials for the task

• Some of the aspects are the lever to push the
  toast down
• And the springs to raise the toast up after it is
  done

• The centering grid that prevents the toast from
  burning
• The heating element that that does the toasting
  of the bread

• The metal tab that holds down the lever so the
  toaster can toast the bread

Toaster Electrical Contents

• Circuit board with various resistors, inductors,
  and capacitors.
• Nickel Chromium wire

Circuitry

• 120V power input to a electromagnetic inductor.
• Circuit is complete or turned on once the bar is
  pushed down.
• Bar has a piece of metal that is attracted to the
  electromagnet that completes the circuit.

Nickel Chromium Wires

• Once circuit is complete nickel chromium wires
  are energized.
• Infrared radiation is emitted to cook the toast

Manual Timer Control

• Cooking time controlled by variable resistor.
• A capacitor charges through the variable resistor
  that acts like a timing circuit.
• Manual timer changes capacitor discharge rate
• Once the resistor times out the magnetic
  attraction is lost and the circuit opens.

120V plug - Safety

• A hot conductor contact in series with the power
  input.
• Circuit opens if an excessive amount of current
  is passed through the plug.
