Taipei? - How do they compare?
4Design of Questionnaire (HK)
- with references to some formats of previous
questionnaires in music curriculum - questions designed are according to current HK
official music syllabuses by CDC - revised by supervisors at the University
- pilot study 3 experienced music teachers with
master degree in education - modification
5Design of Questionnaire (Taipei)
- modify the questionnaire in HK with adding
suitable terms and items - e.g. modify the terms
- Year One , Two Three instead of Form

- mailing to all music teachers in junior secondary
schools via their principals - reply data enter in Excel no replyre-mailing

directly to those junior music teachers then
mail or fax the questionnaires to them again

- mailing to all music teachers in junior secondary
schools via their school academic officers - one week later, write letters to schools
principals to ask permission to visit their
schools as well as remind them to send back the
questionnaires - no reply telephone to them by three local music
teachers and then mail the questionnaires again

Guangdong Nanyin - Taipei Kejia Fujian folk music, Beijing
Operas, their local origin music - Both places are nearly taught all the Chinese
instruments to their students
16Chinese Music Extra-curricular Activities
- HK half of schools have these activities but few
students participate, normally, taught by
external tutors who always organize Chinese
Instrumental Classes - Taipei one-quarter of schools have these
activities and very few students participate

- HK interviews with music teachers to get

and National Taiwan Normal University visit (most
of music teachers trained here) to get in-depth

18Conclusion
- Teachers in both places seem do not keen on
teaching Chinese music and students do not like
to learn Chinese music - Teachers have some different understanding of
Chinese music in HK Taipei - Teachers in both places designed their curriculum
of Chinese music are majority from textbooks or
their own wills - The most favourite Chinese music genre in both
places by students are Pop music instead of
Traditional Chinese music

music teachers in both places - hand summary report to supervisors
