Introduction

• The Civil War was one of the most tragic events
  in American History. This unit will provide the
  students with a deeper understanding of the
  events that led up to the war, the people who
  played key roles in the war, and the effects that
  the war played on American society, both then and
  today.

• The students will mark on a map the Mason-Dixon
  Line, the states that made up the Union and the
  Confederacy.
• The Students will explore the situations that led
  up to the Civil War.
• The students will read Uncle Toms Cabin by
  Harriet Beecher Stowe.

  write why they think there was such controversy
  surrounding it.
• The students will share their opinions to the
  class when they have finished writing it.

• The students will research the important military
  leaders of the southern states.
• The class will split into two groups. One group
  will debate for the North and the other will
  debate for the South the effectiveness of their
  military maneuvers.

  students will have gained a deeper understanding
  of the Civil War and the toll it took on the
  American people.
