Vatican City is in eastern Italy on the continent
of Europe. It is surrounded by Rome, Italys
capitol city. The size of Vatican City is 108.7
acres but it was once 17,000 square miles. It is
the smallest country in the world.

The population of Vatican City is 932. The
onlyreligion is Roman Catholicism. The main
languages are Latin and Italian. Some 200,000
people come every year to Christmas and Easter
Masses. Vatican City has its own railroad,
license plates, bank, and electrical power
plants. It even has its own army, the Swiss
Guard.

Vatican City is an Ecclesiastical state, and the
head of state is the Pope, currently Pope
Benedict the XVI. Vatican City lives on
donationsit does not produce anything.

One famous landmark is St. Peters Basilica. It
has heavy rains in the fall and spring, hot and
dry summers, and mild winters.
