Which Knots to Learn

• Square knot
• Bowline
• Clove Hitch
• Slip knot
• Half hitch
• Taut line hitch

The Square Knot

• Left over Right
• Right over Left
• (or reverse the order if you like it better)

Lets Give it a Try

• Parents, step away from your kids.
• 2 smallest girls on the team each grab one end of
  the rope.
• 2 other girls can hold the the rope a few feet
  back and help.
• Other girls can help, but only politely

The Bowline

• Bring the loose end over the tree to form the
  hole
• The rabbit comes out of the hole
• Goes around the tree
• And goes back into the hole

• Parents, step away from your kids.
• Smallest girl on the team grabs one end of the
  rope.
• 2 other girls should hold the hole for the
  rabbit.
• Another girl should hold the main loop open.
• Be polite while helping!

The Clove Hitch

• Over the top
• Up on the right and over
• Up on the left
• Back through the loop

  rope.

Double Half Hitch

• Under the stick
• Under and through
• Under and through
• Should this be called the whole hitch?

Slip Knot

• Tie a single half hitch, but double up the rope
  first.
• Almost any knot can be a slip knot, but they are
  not as reliable.
