8 9A Definition of Knowledge Mapping
- A knowledge map describes what knowledge is used
in a process, and how it flows around the
process. - It is the basis of determining knowledge
commonality, or areas where similar knowledge is
used across multiple processes - It describes
- who has what knowledge (tacit),
- where the knowledge resides (infrastructure), and
- how the knowledge is transferred or disseminated
(social) - IBM Global Services- Technique Paper 2000
10Purpose
- The basic purpose of knowledge maps is to enable
both - knowledge definition and
- knowledge sharing
- Charles Egbu

21- Senior Management Competencies
- Understanding of Industry Dynamics
- Who Senior Management
- Â
- What They need an understanding as to how the
various factors which influence the industry such
as legislation, regulations, industry targets,
media and supply / demand affect the industry and
how this in turn affects their own organisation. - To do this they must also understand the nature
and size of their own organisation. - Â
- Where This is at the very early stage of the
process and is often at the conceptual stage or
where they may have heard of a particular
opportunity to expand or develop their business.
- Â
- When This may either be when the companys
looking to diversify or when their demand for
glass increases perhaps due to end market
opportunities. - Â
- Importance 1 2 3 ?
- Â
- Success 1 2 3 ?
- Â
- Reasons Recycling in general is in relatively
stages in the UK. This has led to many
organisations entering the market at an early
stage where regulatory drivers and legislation
are being developed, which has led to a grass
roots level of understanding of how the industry
changes. - The introduction of organisations such as Remade
Scotland, WRAP, SEPA, DEFRA and industry
associations have helped support the uptake of
any changes affecting the industry.

- Glass Manufacturing
- In recent years the glass manufacturing industry
have invested in glass reprocessing equipment
which can refine the quality of glass cullet they
receive from the collectors/recyclers. - Their continued investment now allows them in
some cases to take glass straight from the
collection systems without prior processing. - Related topics
