Overall Design Criteria Affordability, Durability, Energy efficiency, Constructability, Sustainability, low tech solutions, cultural values Energy efficiency (highly insulated), Innovative Builiding Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) systems, Didactic quality, maximize space, Flexibility, Sustainability, high tech solutions, local considerations
Design Constraints Aligned to Solar D market approach, tech core width (8.5 ft), climate, availability of materials contractors, volunteer participation, 3 weeks of on site construction Solar D rules regs, exclusively solar powered home, 800 SF, transportation regulations (HxWxL), temp permanent site requirements, 2 performance modes (competition permanent)
Specific Design Features - Customization Northern Cheyenne cultural values Main entrance and living area - East. Spacious and flexible living area (multiple purposes), Open plan kitchen - integrated with living area (separated by a counter), spacious bedrooms (extended family members), the Circle as a floor tile design and artwork, Artwork on strawbale walls, access to outdoors Flexible living space, prognostic control systems, "plug play" fashion of equipment, car interface, air tight envelope and high thermal resistance values of wall and roof systems, systems synergies (heat recovery), minimized ductwork (reduces line losses thus energy used)
