The Prologue
  • Turn to the prologue on page 722.
  • What do we learn from the prologue?
  • What questions come to mind after reading the
    prologue?
  • Predict what you think will be key issues in the
    play.

What is a FEUD?
  • Think of examples of feuds. Perhaps think of wars
    that started because of long-term conflicts
    between two sides, populations that have clashed
    in the past or currently, gang rivalries, etc.
  • Write down a reason why you think feuds often
    drag on and result in violence or other serious
    consequences.

  • Characterization- process of conveying
    information about a character through
    descriptions, actions, speech, and thoughts.
  • Aside- a dramatic device where characters speak
    to audience and it is unheard by other
    characters.

  • Epithet- a characterizing word taking the place
    of a noun for a person or thing.
  • Pun- play on words based on similarity of sound
    between two different words with two different
    meanings.
  • Blank verse- unrhymed verse written in iambic
    pentameter.
  • Couplet- two lines that rhyme and have the same
    meter.
