Title: Policy on Sacramental Preparation

1
Sacrament Spirit/Word of God/Symbol Gift
Experienced
As fire transforms into itself everything it
touches, so the Holy Spirit transforms into the
divine life whatever is subjected to its power.
CCC 1127 Baptism and
Confirmation are not magical actions, but rather
occasions to experience themystery of Jesus
death and resurrection taking place within those
who are making a commitment to him.
Sacraments Encountering the Risen Lord, Rev.
Paul A. Feider, Pg. 20 Sacraments are actions,
not things. The Church is a we, not an ita
group of people with a strong common awareness
of being one in Christ. The Book of
Sacramental Basics, Tad Guzie, Pg.
32 Sacraments symbolic expressions of sacred
realities which are recognized and accepted by
those who have faith experienced revelation of
the holydoors to the sacred enter into a
religious dimension of human existence occasion
an alternative of a persons experience of space
and timean external present In a personal
experience, it makes my life meaningful. In a
social experience it makes our lives meaningful.
But sacred meaning, when it is experienced, is
also mystery. Sacred meaning, when it does
appear, does not have to appear does not have to
be experienced. So when it does appear it is
felt to be a gift, a grace.

Policy on Sacramental Preparation Taken from
faith formation Handbook 2006-2007 Reconciliation
and First Holy Eucharist Children in the 2nd
grade will receive the Sacraments of
Reconciliation (Penance) and First Holy Eucharist
(Communion) providing they have been baptized.
In addition, a minimum of one year of formal
religious education in a parish or Catholic
school program precedes preparation for the
celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation
and First Holy Eucharist. Children in the 3rd
through 12th grades that have missed these
sacraments are offered an age appropriate
Sacramental Preparation class during the same
time and schedule as those students in 2nd grade.
After completing the course they will receive
the sacraments as scheduled. If this applies to
your child, please contact the faith formation
office at 822-3700. Children preparing to
receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and
First Holy Eucharist and their parents are
required to attend an Orientation Meeting,
preparation classes, a Reconciliation retreat,
and a First Holy Eucharist retreat. Confirmation
Youth, ages 14 through 16 are invited to receive
the Sacrament of Confirmation provided they are
current on all other sacraments. To be enrolled
in Confirmation preparation classes, the youth
must be in the early years of high school. The
youth must currently be attending St. Anthony
Youth Group sessions. In addition, a minimum of
two years of formal religious education in a
parish or Catholic school program precedes
preparation for the celebration of the Sacrament
of Confirmation. Confirmation preparation
classes will be held on Wednesday from 600-730
PM, in the Sacramental Preparation Room,
beginning in Early Spring and continuing through
the week prior to Confirmation Liturgy. Youth
and sponsor or parent are required to attend
orientation and all scheduled classes.
Preparation includes attendance at a spring
retreat! Attendance in both regular Religious
Education classes and Sacramental Preparation
classes will be closely monitored. An attendance
of 90 is required for the year prior to and the
current year while enrolled in Sacramental
Preparation classes to be eligible to receive
appropriate Sacraments. Registration Information
for Sacramental Preparation Registration cost is

Preparation. These fees cover costs of supplies,
textbooks, retreat, reception, and gifts received
during the preparation and receiving of the
