  • And those who had seized Jesus led Him away to
Caiaphas, the high priest, where the scribes and
    the elders were gathered together.

3
Peter Follows
  • Matthew 2658
  • But Peter also was following Him at a distance
as far as the courtyard of the high priest, and
entered in, and sat down with the officers to see
    the outcome.

4
They Seek False Witnesses
  • Matthew 2659, 60
  • Now the chief priests and the whole Council kept
trying to obtain false testimony against Jesus,
in order that they might put Him to death and
they did not find any, even though many false
witnesses came forward. But later on two came
    forward,

5
They Seek False Testimony and They Get True
Testimony
  • Matthew 2661
  • and said, This man stated, I am able to
destroy the temple of God and to rebuild it in
    three days.

6
Jesus Predicted His Own Resurrection
  • John 219-21
  • Jesus answered and said to them, Destroy this
temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
The Jews therefore said, It took forty-six years
to build this temple, and will You raise it up in
three days? But He was speaking of the temple of
    His body.

7
Jesus Does Not Defend Himself
  • Matthew 2662, 63
  • And the high priest stood up and said to Him,
Do You make no answer? What is it that these men
are testifying against You? But Jesus kept
silent. And the high priest said to Him, I
adjure You by the living God, that You tell us
whether You are the Christ, the Son of God.

8
Jesus Does not Take an Oath But Predicts Future
Vindication
  • Matthew 2664
  • Jesus said to him, You have said it yourself
nevertheless I tell you, hereafter you shall see
the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of
Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.

9
The Son of Man is Messiah
  • Daniel 713, 14
  • I kept looking in the night visions, And
behold, with the clouds of heaven One like a Son
of Man was coming, And He came up to the Ancient
of Days And was presented before Him. And to Him
was given dominion, Glory and a kingdom, That all
the peoples, nations, and men of every language
Might serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting
dominion Which will not pass away And His
kingdom is one Which will not be destroyed.

10
Caiaphas Believed That Jesus Claimed Deity
  • Matthew 2665
  • Then the high priest tore his robes, saying, He
has blasphemed! What further need do we have of
witnesses? Behold, you have now heard the
    blasphemy.

11
The Sanhedrin Wants Capital Punishment
  • Matthew 2666
  • what do you think? They answered and said, He
    is deserving of death!

  • Matthew 2667, 68
  • Then they spat in His face and beat Him with
their fists and others slapped Him, and said,
Prophesy to us, You Christ who is the one who
    hit You?

13
Prophecy about the Servant of The LORD is
Fulfilled
  • Isaiah 506, 7
  • I gave My back to those who strike Me, And My
cheeks to those who pluck out the beard I did
not cover My face from humiliation and spitting.
For the Lord God helps Me, Therefore, I am not
disgraced Therefore, I have set My face like
flint, And I know that I shall not be ashamed.

14
Jesus Stands Before the Sanhedrin Peter Fails
Before a Servant Girl
  • Matthew 2669, 70
  • Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard,
and a certain servant-girl came to him and said,
You too were with Jesus the Galilean. But he
denied it before them all, saying, I do not know
    what you are talking about.

15
Peter Denies and Does So With an Oath
  • Matthew 2671, 72
  • And when he had gone out to the gateway, another
servant-girl saw him and said to those who were
there, This man was with Jesus of Nazareth. And
again he denied it with an oath, I do not know
    the man.

16
Now Peter Puts HimselfUnder a Curse
  • Matthew 2673, 74
  • And a little later the bystanders came up and
said to Peter, Surely you too are one of them
for the way you talk gives you away. Then he
began to curse and swear, I do not know the
man! And immediately a cock crowed.

17
Peter Failed As Jesus Predicted and is Filled
with Remorse
  • Matthew 2675
  • And Peter remembered the word which Jesus had
said, Before a cock crows, you will deny Me
three times. And he went out and wept bitterly.

  • The Need for Prayer and Scripture
  • The Need For Confession
  • The Significance of Jesus Prediction of His Own
    Resurrection

19

The Need for Prayer and Scripture
  • Matthew 2641
  • Keep watching and praying, that you may not
enter into temptation the spirit is willing, but
    the flesh is weak.

20

The Need for Prayer and Scripture
  • Psalm 11911
  • Thy word I have treasured in my heart, That I
    may not sin against Thee.
  • Isaiah 517
  • Listen to Me, you who know righteousness, A
people in whose heart is My law Do not fear the
reproach of man, Neither be dismayed at their
    revilings.

21

The Need For Confession
  • 1Timothy 612
  • Fight the good fight of faith take hold of the
eternal life to which you were called, and you
made the good confession in the presence of many
    witnesses.

22

The Need For Confession
  • 1Timothy 613, 14
  • I charge you in the presence of God, who gives
life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who
testified the good confession before Pontius
Pilate, that you keep the commandment without
stain or reproach until the appearing of our Lord
    Jesus Christ,

23

The Need For Confession
  • Matthew 1032, 33
  • Everyone therefore who shall confess Me before
men, I will also confess him before My Father who
is in heaven. But whoever shall deny Me before
men, I will also deny him before My Father who is
    in heaven.

24

The Need For Confession
  • 1John 42, 3
  • By this you know the Spirit of God every spirit
that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the
flesh is from God and every spirit that does not
confess Jesus is not from God and this is the
spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard
that it is coming, and now it is already in the
    world.

25

The Need For Confession
  • 1John 46
  • We are from God he who knows God listens to us
he who is not from God does not listen to us. By
this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit
    of error.

26

The Significance of Jesus Prediction of His Own
Resurrection
  • Matthew 2763, 64
  • Sir, we remember that when He was still alive
that deceiver said, After three days I am to
rise again. Therefore, give orders for the grave
to be made secure until the third day, lest the
disciples come and steal Him away and say to the
people, He has risen from the dead, and the
last deception will be worse than the first.
