Background of Bangladesh
  • Bangladesh came into existence as an independent
    sovereign state in the world map on 16th
    December in 1971 after 9th month direct struggle
    a blood-bath against the West Pakistan (from
    March 25 to December 16, 1971) the nation
    politically came as "The Peoples' Republic of
    Bangladesh".
  • The country at birth had inherited a poor
    undiversified mixed economy characterized by an
    undeveloped infrastructure, stagnant agriculture
    and a rapidly growing population.

Bangladesh Government has the course of 5years
and 2years plan for Science Technology Research
development as well as Socio-Economic Development
since 1973-2002.
  • The National Science Technology Policy (NSTP)
  • National Science Technology Policy (NSTP) was
    drafted in 1985 by the Science and Technology
    Division under the Ministry of Education and
    subsequently approved by the National Committee
    for Science and Technology. Now it is under the
    Ministry of Science and Information Communication
    Technology. The policy being reviewed timely
    according to the change of scenario.

BackgroundBANSDOC (PANSDOC) was established in
1963 as a branch office of the then Pakistan
Council of Scientific Industrial Research
(PCSIR). It has come out as Bangladesh National
Scientific Technical Documentation Centre
(BANSDOC) in 1972 as a unit of BCSIR. In 1987
BANSDOC has separated from BCSIR emerged as an
independent S T Inf. and Documentation Centre.
  • Aims Objectives
  • To collect Statistical Data on Science ,
    Technology and R D and disseminate etc.
  • To collect, store and disseminate journal
    document, information and data for the relevant
    users as well as stake holder's on relevant
    field.
  • To make arrangement of right information to the
    right person in the right time.
  • To build up a connection with the researchers in
    the home abroad.
  • To build up a digital data bank that can remotely
    access.
  • To arrange training programme for S T research
    development.
  • To adopt new informatics publication for users
    as well as stake holder's.
  • To provide ICT base library internet searching
    facilities for the relevant knowledge seekers.
  • Provide Research regarding NSTP

art-report, thesis, news letter, Dictionaries,
study carrel etc.with well furnished and
quiet environment. About 33 subjects are
covered in biological abstract which are
preserved in CD DVD buying from Thomson Int of
USA with the charges of 22 lack taka. Per
year, Recently mobile lib. computer lab
service is providing near by Institutional
area of the capital city with internet browsing.
Digital photography, vediography, spiral
binding, laminating , duplo reproduction
etc.

S T and R D Development in Bangladesh
  • In April to August 1997 BANSDOC has thrown a
    Questionnaire for data collection to 168
    Organization Department including various
    science departments of 10 Universities (including
    2 Private universities) has sent their status of
    their S T potentials and capability. For the
    Next Initiatives (see Questionnaire) Logically
    it is mentioned that earlier BANSDOC did not
    perform such kinds of data collection activities
    according to the questionnaire provided by the
    UNESCO (UIS). However, Some recent S T, R D
    indicators are-

    electricity, setting National Data Centre,
    setting up LAN and Server for DC Divisional
    Commissioner's offices, etc. 09-10/14 project and
    10-11 more than 20 programme by BCC
