The Church A Community of Worship
4
Meaning of the term church suggests a
congregation actively engaged in worship.
5
  • English term church translation of Greek term
    ekklesia
  • ekklesia formed from verb kaleo (to call)
plus preposition ek (out of) the called out
    ones

6
  • The Church, by definition, is the body that
    gathers.
  • To be a Christian was to be one who assembled .
    . .

7
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves
together, as the manner of some is . . .
Hebrews 1025 KJV

They have been individuals, some white, some
black, some poor, some rich, they have been the
natural world and a natural community. And now
they have been called to come together in one
place, to bring their lives, their very world
with them and to be more than they were a new
community with a new life. We are already far
beyond the categories of common worship and
prayer.
10
The purpose of this coming together is not
simply to add a religious dimension to the
natural community, to make it better ? more
responsible, more Christian. The purpose is to
fulfill the church, and that means to make
present the One in whom all things are at their
end, and all things are at their beginning.
11
The church is primarily a worshipping community.
As the chief activity of the church, worship
constitutes and identifies the church.

The Church A People in Covenant The Nation
of God But you are a chosen people, a royal
priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to
God, that you may declare the praises of him who
called you out of darkness into his wonderful
light. 1 Peter 29 NIV
14
The Body of Christ And God placed all things
under his feet and appointed him to be head over
everything for the church, which is his body, the
fullness of him who fills everything in every
way. Ephesians 122-23 NIV
15
The Temple of the Spirit Consequently, you are
no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow
citizens with God's people and members of God's
household, built on the foundation of the
apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself
as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole
building is joined together and rises to become a
holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are
being built together to become a dwelling in
which God lives by his Spirit. Ephesians
219-22 NIV
16
The Church A Sign of the Kingdom the
instrument by which Gods sovereignty is to be
established, and to it the Father in His good
pleasure gives the kingdom.
17
The Church as a Community formed through the
coming together of ones who have entered into
covenant with God in Christ and therefore with
each other.
18
  • The Community
  • and the Divine Purpose
  • Our salvation occurs in relationships, not in
    isolation.
  • Eph. 214-19 For he himself is our peace, who
has made the two one and has destroyed the
barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by
abolishing in his flesh the law with its
    commandments and regulations. ?

19
His purpose was to create in himself one new man
out of the two, thus making peace, and in this
one body to reconcile both of them to God through
the cross, by which he put to death their
hostility. He came and preached peace to you who
were far away and peace to those who were near.
For through him we both have access to the Father
by one Spirit. Consequently, you are no
longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens
with God's people and members of God's household
Ephesians 214-19 NIV
20
When you come together, it is not the Lords
Supper you eat, for as you eat, each of you goes
ahead without waiting for anybody else. One
remains hungry, another gets drunk. 1
Corinthians 1120-21 NIV
21
So then, my brothers, when you come together to
eat the Lords Supper, wait for each other. If
anyone is hungry, he should eat at home, so that
when you meet together it may not result in
judgment. 1 Corinthians 1132-34  NIV
22
When you come together, everyone has a hymn, or a
word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an
interpretation. All of these must be done for the
strengthening of the church. 1 Corinthians
1426 NIV
23
And they steadfastly perse-vered, devoting
themselves constantly to the instruction and
fellowship of the apostles, to the breaking of
bread including the Lords Supper and prayers.
Acts 242 Amp.
24
And day after day they regularly assembled in
the temple with united purpose, and in their
homes they broke bread including the Lords
Supper. They partook of their food with gladness
and simplicity and generous hearts, constantly
praising God Acts 246 Amp.
25
where two or three come together in my name,
there am I with them. Matthew 1820 NIV

Gods Order of Priority
Luke 1038-42 NIV
37
As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he
came to a village where a woman named Martha
opened her home to him. She had a sister called
Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to
what he said.
38
But Martha was distracted by all the preparations
that had to be made. She came to him and asked,
Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me
to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!
39
Martha, Martha, the Lord answered, you are
worried and upset about many things, but only one
thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better,
and it will not be taken away from her.
40

For the weariest day may Christ be your
stay. For the darkest night may Christ be your
light. For the weakest hour may Christ be your
power. For each moments fall may Christ be
your all.
41

This week Will you choose To sit at Jesus
feet And listen ?
