'Podcasting'. From Wikipedia""Podcasting" is a
web-based broadcast medium in which files are
made available online in a way that allows
software to automatically detect new files
(generally via RSS), and download them. A podcast
can be thought of an audio magazine subscription,
in that a subscriber receives regular programs
without having to remember to go get them, and
can listen or watch them at leisure."
10
What is a podcast?
  • 1. Term came from iPod and broadcasting
  • 2. Podcasting is the method of distributing
multimedia files, (audio, videos, etc.) for
playback on mobile devices and personal
    computers.
  • 3. Podcasting is essentially like 'radio' and
can be produced with a standard computer,
microphone, software (often free), and a web site
    for posting your programming.
  • 4. Podcasting can be heard or viewed with any
computer or downloaded to a mobile device.

Why Podcast ?
  • Podcasts allows students and teachers to publish
    audio to the Web,
  • ... Bob Sprankle notes that the podcasts allow
his students to publish to a global community ...
  • Distribute information
  • Share performances
  • Improve verbal skills

26
Why Podcast-David Warlick
  • Podcasting makes publishing accessible to the
    common man or woman.
  • They provide a powerful, reachable voice to
people that would previously be inaccessible.
  • Instead of seeking out the content, its always
just waiting for you whenever you have the time
    to consume it. .
  • Where the written word tends to be deliberate and
semi-formal, the spoken word can be casual and
    natural.
  • There is a sense of connection when you hear
    someones voice.
  • You can feel their emotion.
  • When you hear someone speak, you can immediately
sense how they feel about their subject matter.

27
Why I Podcast.David Warlick
  • I podcast because the spoken word is much more
effective for conveying emotion. There are people
who share common interests with me that are
seeking audio content that appeals directly to
them my podcast provides people with an
alternative to the limited choices available on
    traditional radio. Most importantly though,
podcasting is a literal voice that complements
the virtual voice of my blog.

Dan Schmidt currently has two books available as
resources for teachers. These books will provide
you with lots of background and tutorial material
for implementing creative audio into your
classroom or educational organization. They are
more than simple tutorial books, they are filled
with examples and activities to provide educators

Podcasts Give Students More 'Teacher Time'
  • "You're making your classroom part of the global
    conversation," said David Warlick.
  • "When you engage the kids in the world, the kids
see their values in a different way." Some
students usually can't wait to get out of class.
Others, such as 14-year-old Adrienne Graskemper,
can't wait to listen to her teacher Eric
Langhorst again and again and again. Langhorst is
an eighth-grade history teacher in the Liberty
School District of Kansas City, Mo., and his
secret weapon is podcasting. He is among a
handful of teachers who use podcasts to help
students review for exams and to supplement their
    education outside the classroom.
